International Women’s Day Luncheon: Women Crafting Democracy

Special guest speaker Betsy Greer will discuss Craftivism, community building and crafting civic engagement. A panel with Greensboro artist Sunny Gravely and craftivist Kathy Newsom follows Greer’s talk.

Betsy Greer is author of Knitting for Good! and editor of the anthology Craftivism: The Art of Craft and Activism. Her online projects include http://craftivism.com and http://youaresoverybeautiful.com/. Greensboro History Museum features some of her embroideries within the Smithsonian traveling exhibition American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith. Painter, teacher and arts entrepreneur Sunny Gravely helped start The Artist Bloc gallery, coffee shop and art supply store and TAB ArtsCenter in Greensboro. Kathy Newsom directs The Corner Market, a weekly artisan and farmers market operating in Greensboro since 2013, and has organized creative projects such as Lindley Park’s Knit the Bridge.

This year’s International Women’s Day Luncheon highlights the intersection of making and democracy as part of Project Democracy 20/20.
