Participants will learn how to write a competitive grant proposal\, what cultural funders look for\, and gain insight into the review process. SUMMARY:Southern Mix-er Community Day
DESCRIPTION:Sat. 4/5 1 pm-4 pm \nDiscover Asian American stories from Greensboro and across North Carolina. Meet\, snack\, and connect with local residents and learn about UNC Asian American Center’s Southern Mix project. \nSouthern Mix documents distinctive and powerful voices from Asian American communities around the Southeast through oral histories. A Community Voices display featuring interviews from the project is on view in the museum lobby through June 1. \nProgram attendees will have a chance to learn about the project and the UNC Asian American Center. Area residents from different Asian American communities will share their stories\, and representatives will answer questions about local organizations including New Arrivals Institute\, Pan-Asian Voices and Experiences (PAVE) NC\, and Greensboro Triad Hindu Temple\, among others. SUMMARY:Greensboro Public Library One City\, One Book – Films & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy three short films and commentary from best-selling author Laura Carney\, filmmaker Curtis Chin\, and Zelda Lockhart\, author of Trinity at 6:30 pm\, Tuesday\, October 21\, at the Greensboro History Museum\, 130 Summit Ave. Carney\, author of this year’s One City\, One Book selection\, My Father’s List: How Living My Dad’s Dreams Set Me Free\, shares her journey with a short film by Erin Everson. \nWe will also screen PBS’s Warren King: King of Cardboard by filmmaker Curtis Chin and a short film about Zelda Lockhart\, her work in Africa and generational healing. A discussion with the panelists will follow the films. \nThe subject of Curtis Chin’s film\, Asian American Warren King builds life-size sculptures of impressive realism armed solely with cardboard and glue. Chin is also the author of Everything I Learned\, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant\, offering a poignant and humorous look at growing up in Detroit in the 1980s as a gay Chinese American kid—where the family restaurant served as both sanctuary and battleground. \nZelda Lockhart is a current Fulbright Specialist engaging in cross-cultural story projects for generational healing in the U.S. and abroad. She holds a PhD in Expressive Art Therapies\, an MA in Literature\, and a certificate in writing\, directing and editing from the NY Film Academy. Her work as an author and expressive arts consultant and educator centers on the power of story and nature to connect us across barriers and to heal our generations. \nLaura Carney’s One City\, One Book Greensboro Residency began October 7 and the author will be leading events through October 23\, 2025. Her book\, My Father’s List\, is the story of how one woman—with the help of family\, friends\, and even strangers—found the courage to go after her own dreams after realizing those of her free-spirited father. \nOne City\, One Book is funded by the Greensboro Public Library Foundation. The Foundation provides resources beyond public funds to enhance the facilities\, programming\, technology\, book collections\, and other materials of the Library. SUMMARY:World Day of Remembrance Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 World Day of Remembrance Bike Ride to honor those who have lost their lives or been seriously injured in traffic accidents.  The 2.2-mile bike ride will start at the Greensboro History Museum. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet and dress for visibility. A limited number of bikes will be available to borrow during the ride. \nThis ride is hosted by The Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)  in partnership with Bicycling in Greensboro\, The Community Bike Shop\, and Major Taylor Cycling Club NC. \nFor more information\, email corey.khamdy@greensboro-nc.gov. \n  \n
