SUMMARY:Southern Mix-er Community Day
DESCRIPTION:Sat. 4/5 1 pm-4 pm \nDiscover Asian American stories from Greensboro and across North Carolina. Meet\, snack\, and connect with local residents and learn about UNC Asian American Center’s Southern Mix project. \nSouthern Mix documents distinctive and powerful voices from Asian American communities around the Southeast through oral histories. A Community Voices display featuring interviews from the project is on view in the museum lobby through June 1. \nProgram attendees will have a chance to learn about the project and the UNC Asian American Center. Area residents from different Asian American communities will share their stories\, and representatives will answer questions about local organizations including New Arrivals Institute\, Pan-Asian Voices and Experiences (PAVE) NC\, and Greensboro Triad Hindu Temple\, among others. DESCRIPTION:Sat. 4/26 1 pm- 3 pm \nYoungsters and their families can drop by the museum from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday\, April 26 to celebrate World Veterinary Day and learn more about Greensboro’s own Dr. Alfreda Webb with a fun children’s craft. \nWebb was one of the first two Black women to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee Institute in 1949 and served on the planning committee for the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. She served as a biology professor at North Carolina A&T State University from 1959-1978 and was the first Black woman to serve in the North Carolina legislature after the governor appointed her to a seat in 1972.
