DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Year of the Horse with East and Southeast Asian community groups from Greensboro and beyond. \nDemonstrations\, performances\, hands-on activities\, and more from community organizations. \nPlus Bao Yeah! and Sister Liu’s Kitchen Food Trucks \n\n \nHands-on activities and information tables in the GHM lobby all afternoon.\nPerformance schedule:\n11:15 am in Mary Norris Preyer Hall inside the museum\nDance and musical performances organized by Greensboro Chinese Association \n1 pm in Mary Norris Preyer Hall inside the museum\nDance performances organized by Korean-American Association of Greater Greensboro \n2 pm in the Lobby inside the museum\nYo-yo acrobatics and musical and dance performances\, including dragon & lion dances organized by Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors Raleigh \nPerformance schedule and locations are subject to adjustments due to weather and other factors. \nFree parking for Greensboro History Museum weekend events is available across from the museum and at the Church Street Parking Deck\, a 5-minute walk.\n  \n\nThank you to our Community Partners:\n\nGreensboro Chinese Association\nFormosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors Raleigh\nKorean Association of Greater Greensboro\nNC Asian Americans Together \nAggies for Asia\nGreensboro Public Library\nGreensboro Downtown Parks Inc. \nAnd more!\n\n\nWhat is Lunar New Year anyway?\nHere’s what our friends at the Smithsonian have to say: \n“Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China\, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea\, Vietnam\, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture\, many who celebrate the holiday consider it the time of the year to reunite with loved ones. In the Chinese zodiac\, 2026 is the Year of the Horse. The celebrations begin with New Year’s Eve on February 17 and last for 15 days\, concluding with the Lantern Festival on March 3. Different regions across Asia celebrate Lunar New year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac. ” Find out more…
