Internship Programs
The Greensboro History Museum operates several active internship programs for undergraduate and graduate students. Most internships are eligible for college credit, and most provide stipends. Interns have assisted departments on a broad range of projects, from helping with collections inventories to working with manuscripts to community outreach and educational programs.
Summer internship opportunities are posted in January, with a March application deadline. If positions are available other times of year, information will be posted below. Announcements are also distributed to Piedmont NC area colleges and universities.

B. Craighead Davidson Endowment Internships -
Davidson internships are funded through a generous bequest from the estate of Alice Abel to honor her father, B. Craighead Davidson. These internships are open to undergraduate or graduate students with a demonstrated interest in a museum, library, or archives career.
Each summer, three or four opportunities in different areas of the museum such as collections, archives, or education are available. These internships offer a $2,500 stipend for a minimum of 160 hours of work. Applicants should be currently enrolled in a degree program or have graduated in the last academic year.

Gayle Hicks Fripp Internship -
This internship honors Gayle Fripp – UNCG alumna, former museum assistant director, and distinguished author – in recognition of her contributions to the field of public history and service to the Greensboro community. This is an excellent opportunity for a UNCG Public History & Museum Studies graduate student to learn and apply best professional practices of museum education and interpretation. This internship offers a stipend of $3,000 and requires a minimum of 180 hours of work.

SECU Public Fellows Internship -
Through the SECU Public Fellows Internship Program, a UNCG undergraduate can gain experience in museum education and outreach at the Greensboro History Museum.
This is a 300-400 hour internship offers a $4,900 stipend. Applications for the 2026 Summer SECU Public Fellow Internship are now open. Please go to the UNCG Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement page to learn more and apply. Deadline to apply is Friday, January 23.
