Landscapes of Freedom: New Garden Neighborhoods Through the Centuries

By 1776, the New Garden area was well known as an early Quaker settlement. Over continuing generations, the community was a hub for worship, education, and abolitionism. Additional families, including African American families seeking a safe place to live and work, established themselves post-Civil War.
