Join us for a panel discussion with Dr. Kevin A. Williams, Mother Florence P. Williams, and others as we explore the history of New Jerusalem Cathedral during its 50th anniversary year.
Established in September 1975 by Bishop Frank McDaniel Williams and Mother Florence P. Williams, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, later renamed New Jerusalem Cathedral, held its first worship service at the YWCA on Pearson Street in Greensboro. Soon the new church counted 167 members. Previously pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Williams was also a community leader, who founded Greensboro’s OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) and served as local organizer for Dr. King’s 1968 Poor People’s March on Washington.
A Community Voices display in the museum lobby through August 10 highlights the congregation’s half century.
