Flashback to the 1970s at the Greensboro History Museum July 12

GREENSBORO, NC (July 2, 2025) Dive into the decade of disco, punk, and funk with Flashback 1970s from 11 am-4:30 pm, Saturday, July 12 at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave. Visitors can enjoy a free family festival exploring 1970s history, music, culture, and curiosities.

Outside the museum, visitors can take an up-close look at 1970s Vintage Vehicles and get physical with some classic summer camp games. Activities inside the museum include crafts with Reconsidered Goods, participatory game shows, and a memory map of 1970s Greensboro. Experts will illuminate local history with flash talks on pioneering Judge Elreta Alexander, UNC Greensboro Science Fiction Fantasy Federation, astronaut Ronald McNair’s time at NC A&T, and more. A fashion show at 3 pm showcases some of the era’s unforgettable trends.

Young and old alike can dress up as their favorite 70s celebrity or movie, television, cartoon or comics character for a Celebs & Sci-fi Costume Contest, and home cooks can bring in one of three vintage recipes to enter the 1970s Bake Off. All events are free. Goodies from the Hot Dog Central and Scoop Zone food trucks will be available for purchase.

The Greensboro History Museum, an AAM-accredited Smithsonian Affiliate, is a division of the City of Greensboro Library Department and operates as a public-private partnership with the nonprofit GHM Inc. In partnership with the community, the Greensboro History Museum collects the city’s diverse history and connects people to that history and one another through engaging exhibits, educational programs and community dialogue. Located in Downtown Greensboro’s Cultural District, the museum is open Tuesdays–Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 2-5 pm. Admission is free.
