GREENSBORO, NC (February 13, 2026) Meet some of Greensboro’s African American history makers from 11am-4 pm Saturday, February 28 at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave. During this free event guests can explore Black History with short presentations, children’s craft activities, and costumed interpreters who will share well-known and little-known stories of African Americans in the Gate City.
At 11 am discover the untold stories of Black Patriots at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse with a short presentation from historian Dr. Scott Culclasure and descendant Solomon Titus. From 11:30 am-1 pm, children and their families can learn more about Black Patriots Ishmael Titus and John Gibson with a fun craft and Black History Hunt during Little Lions Saturday.
Lifted Voices: Black History offers tours of museum galleries with costumed interpreters portraying some of Guilford County’s historic figures from 1-4 pm. Meet Revolutionary War Patriot widow Milley Caper; Benjamin Benson, a free person of color kidnapped into enslavement who sued for his freedom in Greensboro in 1817; and educator Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, who organized an elite preparatory boarding school for Black students in Guilford County in the early 1900s. Tours to visit all of the interpreters begin in the museum lobby approximately every half hour and take 30-45 minutes.
The Greensboro History Museum – AAM-accredited and a Smithsonian Affiliate – is a division of the City of Greensboro Libraries & Museum Department and operates as a public-private partnership with the nonprofit GHM Inc. Together with our diverse communities, the Greensboro History Museum collects objects and stories, connects generations, and challenges people to explore our city’s past, present and future. The Museum sparks wonder through bold exhibitions and creative public programs. We nurture civic engagement and lifelong learning. We encourage dialogue, and we care for all that is entrusted to us. Located in Downtown Greensboro’s Cultural District, the museum is open Tuesdays–Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 2-5 pm. Admission is free.
