Songs of World War I

October 24, 2017

The Greensboro History Museum transforms into a 1918 cabaret at 7:30 pm, Friday, October 27, as Michael Lasser, Cindy Miller and Alan Jones share songs and stories from the Great War. The performance is a preview of the museum’s new World War I exhibition Lest We Forget: WWI through the Eyes of Nine, which opens November 11.

Lecturer, author, and broadcaster Michael Lasser has entertained audiences across the country. In this program, “Hearing America Change: The Songs of World War I,” he leads the audience on a voyage through wartime while singers Cindy Miller and Alan Jones perform songs that are alternately hilarious and heartbreaking. From “K-K-K-Katy” to “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree)?” the music and lyrics of the era offer a unique perspective on the American experience of the Great War both at home and “Over There.”

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.
