Field Trips

Discover free, fun, hands-on field trip experiences for your Kindergarten-6th grade students. Our field trips meet the North Carolina curriculum standards and engage students in ways that complement and enhance formal learning.

Types of Field Trips

Little House in the Big Woods (K-5th grade)

Travel the Great Wagon Road with early settlers, then visit restored buildings to learn about life in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Stations include visits to the blacksmith shop, McNairy House, tools, colonial clothing, quilts, and the Great Wagon Road. This Field trip is appropriate for students who are in grades K-4th.

Welcome to the Gate City! (K-3rd grade)

Take a trip to Greensboro around 1900 to learn more about the city’s past. Students will visit Ms. Lina’s School, the Richardson & Fariss Drug Store, Steam Fire Engine Company No.1, Hotel Clegg, and the Crystal Theatre. This Field Trip is appropriate for students in grades K-3rd.

Dollars and Changing Times (4th-6th grade)

Students will explore the history of our city beginning with the early settlers and ending with present day Greensboro. Each station–in Bewitching County, Early Greensboro, Denim Capital, Changing Times, and Today’s Gate City–provides students an opportunity to explore the exhibit, engage with artifacts, and draw comparisons. This Field Trip is appropriate for students in 1st-4th grade.

When are Field Trips Available?

Field Trips are available October through May for groups of up to 72 students per visit. Field Trips can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday, beginning at 9:30 AM. See available times and dates here, and please review Field Trip guidelines as you make your plans.
